At First Foundation Bank, we value community involvement. This month, we’re proud to recognize Jason Mescheder, Branch Manager of our Rolling Hills Estates branch in the South Bay area of California, for his outstanding volunteer work.
Jason, a native of Torrance, CA, now lives in Lomita with his wife and two children. After joining First Foundation Bank over five years ago, he connected with Family Promise of Los Angeles, supporting families experiencing homelessness. What began with small projects led to sponsorships and eventually a board position—he now serves as Treasurer. One moment that deeply impacted Jason was a financial literacy session with Family Promise case managers. “Hearing feedback from them about the families in need... made me understand how much help is needed,” he reflects. “I had no idea how big of a problem it was until I met Family Promise of LA.”
Jason also volunteers with Mychal’s Learning Place, supporting youth with developmental disabilities. He was inspired after meeting the founder shortly after his daughter was born. Ten years later, he still volunteers at their annual luncheon. “When the founder gives a speech... It makes me tear up every time,” Jason says. “Out of all the events I go to help out at Mychal’s, I’m always looking forward to this one the most.” He also supports other events like Mychal’s Santa Stroll in Hermosa Beach. If you are a local, you should absolutely check it out and join the mass of Santas as they walk, run, or stroll from the Hermosa Beach Pier to Manhattan Beach and back, benefiting kids and young adults with developmental disabilities.
Through volunteering, Jason has built lasting relationships. “I’ve made so many great connections... I’m always meeting new people and building relationships.” These connections help him discover more nonprofits in need.
When asked what drives him, Jason shares: “I can’t help but try to be more involved in the community. It feels good to give back. I feel like I have had a great life, and I’ve been helped by so many people throughout my own life. It feels good to be on the giving end and to be able to help others in need since people were there for me when I needed it.”
Jason’s dedication to Family Promise and Mychal’s Learning Place shows the impact one person can make. Thank you, Jason, for your inspiring leadership and commitment to our community.
